Recently, the national council voted to allow homosexual boys into boy scout troops. More specifically, they removed the ability for councils and troops to deny membership based solely on sexual orientation or preference. So while this is “good” in the sense that boys that would not be allowed in certain troops can now participate in the program. However, this resolution doesn’t solve the problem that started the entire debacle in the first place involving the BSA and the LGBTQIAA community. The main issue is that homosexual LEADERS (18+ or 21+ if venturers) are not allowed in the program. What that means is if you want to give back the organization or want to participate with their children in scouting cannot do so.

While this is technically a good thing, it doesn’t do anything. Most troops do not discriminate based on sexual orientation. If they do discriminate, they do so on economic means, racial, or religious (or lack there of). I’m not saying that a boy will be denied membership for being a hindu or zoroastrian but that they can Feel like they are not a member of the troop or crew and be bullied out.

I feel like this is a false compromise that will divide people more than unify people. Also, the wording of the resolution is that a boy cannot be a part of the scouts based solely on sexual orientation. So a boy can still be kicked for being gay but so long as they are also atheists or too poor, their orientation can be tacked on.

Anyway, this doesn’t change anything. Really, this will hurt the BSA more than it will heal the BSA and the community at large.
